Activities & Snacks

Activities:

  • Cut an apple in half and use paint to make apple prints!
  • Glue autumn leaves or acorns on a letter ‘a’.
  • Go to an apple orchard and pick some apples!
  • Have students bring objects from home that begin with the /a/ sound. Let each student describe their object while the class guesses the object.
  • Make applesauce!
  • Plan a picnic with food that begins with the letter ‘a’.  Pack apples, animal crackers, alphabet soup, angel food cake and apple juice!  Prearrange for the students to discover ants (plastic toy ants) at the picnic site.  Then, have fun learning the song “The Ants Go Marching”.
  • Rake autumn leaves!
  • String Apple Jacks cereal.
  • Take an astronaut trip to the moon! Look for asteroids (orange Nerf balls).
  • Trace the letter ‘a’ in applesauce!

Snacks:

  • Almonds
  • Alphabet soup
  • Angel food cake
  • Animal crackers
  • Ants on a log:  Spread peanut butter or cream cheese on celery.  Add raisins for ants!
  • Apple juice
  • Apples
  • Applesauce
  • Avocados
  • Bake bread sticks in the shape of the letter ‘a’.  Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon for fun!
  • Dried apples
  • Make “acorn” snack mix with seeds, dried apples and chex mix.
